The Southern Professional Outboard Racing Tour, also known as the S.P.O.R.T Racing series, has been promoting, organizing, and conducting powerboat racing events in the southeastern United States for over two decades. The series incorporates four classes of powerboat racing into all of their events: SPORT F1, Formula Lights, Tri-Hull, and J-Hydro.
The SPORT F1 class features some of the fastest, most agile, tunnel boat racing in the world today. These boats literally are able to turn on a dime, and accelerate quickly at speeds of over 120MPH! Drivers in this class maneuver their fire breathing beasts around the race course with superior handling and control, thrilling audiences with high speed, high stakes, intense racing competition.
Formula Lights are basically a smaller version of the SPORT F1 class in appearance and handling characteristics. The Formula Light boats are shorter in length with smaller horsepower engines. These race crafts are able to turn with the same agility as their larger cousins, and operate with a top speed of over 75MPH. Formula Lights are considered an entry level tunnel boat class to many, in which some of the greatest world champion F1 tunnel boat drivers began (and honed) their racing skills.
Now if you are looking for some true, edge of your seat entertainment, then you cannot miss the Tri-Hull class! These boats are a completely original, one-of-a-kind racing breed that you have to see to believe! Developed by the Schubert family in the mid 90's, these boats were designed based off of vintage walk- thru windshield cruising boats with V4 fishing engines. This class always proves to be a crowd favorite with some of the roughest, toughest, most destructive racing anywhere in the United States!
Last, but not least, the J-Hydro class was integrated into the S.P.O.R.T series as an outlet to train and groom our youth into the future racers of America. Kids, ages 9-16, are able to learn the basics of racing through experience in these 12' need rider boats propelled by 9.9hp outboard engines. Knowledge of the sport is gained in a comfortable environment with constant, constructive guidance and direction from all involved.
When you put these four classes together at a S.P.O.R.T Racing series event, it makes for a weekend full of non-stop racing action enjoyable for all ages! The S.P.O.R.T Racing series prides itself on creating and maintaining a competitive yet friendly atmosphere, that the whole family can enjoy!
